QNAS – An Innovative Approach to Tinnitus Relief
QNAS, or Quietness via Neuro Auditory Stimulation, is a ground-breaking process developed to assess, alleviate, and manage tinnitus effectively. At TinnitusCare Clinics, we’re proud that 90% of patients who attend experience a reduction in tinnitus sounds during their first consultation. Although tinnitus may return after the visit, this initial relief demonstrates how tinnitus can be managed and that quietness is attainable. Our process provides personalized daily exercises that empower patients to reduce tinnitus noise themselves, benefiting individuals with both normal hearing and hearing loss. QNAS has proven highly effective even in complex cases, including severe tinnitus, unilateral hearing loss, and cochlear implant users.
QNAS combines established tinnitus therapies like Tinnitus Retraining Therapy and Widex Zen Tinnitus Therapy, enhanced with our proprietary insights. Developed over five years and supported by more than 15 years of clinical experience, QNAS has transformed tinnitus care.
The QNAS Process: Three Key Steps
Our approach involves three essential steps designed to relieve tinnitus:
- Assessment
We conduct a thorough evaluation of the patient’s tinnitus, medical history, and auditory health, providing a comprehensive understanding of their condition. - Education
We explain tinnitus mechanisms and present audiological insights in a clear, accessible way, empowering patients to manage symptoms confidently. A core part of this education is experiencing tinnitus reduction first-hand, which boosts knowledge and self-assurance. - Amelioration
We offer a customized treatment plan, often involving sound stimulation devices, to reduce or even eliminate tinnitus symptoms.
Immediate Relief with QNAS
While total elimination of tinnitus is uncommon, most patients experience substantial relief, finding their tinnitus far more manageable after practising QNAS.
Our 90-minute initial consultation includes a detailed review of medical history with an emphasis on auditory health, a thorough tinnitus assessment, and an overview of audiological testing. This is followed by a pure-tone audiometry test to identify any hearing loss patterns linked to tinnitus. Based on the results, we may introduce calibrated sound generators or hearing aids that deliver immediate tinnitus relief. Most patients notice a reduction, and in some cases, a complete cessation of tinnitus sounds shortly after the devices are activated.
A key component of QNAS is the Widex Zen Tinnitus program (WZT). Developed from the Zen tone therapy by Widex in 2009, the WZT program is continuously refined and has outperformed similar methods, such as those from Sonova, GN Resound, and Starkey. With the addition of Widex’s GPS Compass software tools, we ensure optimal outcomes through QNAS.
Long-Term Tinnitus Management
After initial relief, we develop a customized, long-term management plan. Some patients benefit from brief daily exercises, while others may require specialized audio devices or hearing aids. Each option is carefully discussed to support sustained tinnitus relief.
QNAS is designed to offer gentle, lasting relief, giving patients the freedom to enjoy life without the constant interruption of tinnitus.

Etymology of QNAS
While QNAS stands for Quietness via Neuro Auditory Stimulation, it also reflects “Quietness through Narrative, Analogy, and Stories.” This emphasizes the role of knowledge and understanding in tinnitus management. Tinnitus is complex and multidisciplinary, with each profession—neurology, ENT, and audiology—bringing unique insights that can be challenging to communicate. The QNAS method translates these intricate neurological and sensory processes into clear, engaging stories and analogies, enabling patients to understand and manage their tinnitus effectively.
The acronym QNAS also carries a connection to the Irish word “ciúnas,” meaning calmness, stillness, and quiet. In Irish, the phrase “Tá an saol mór faoi chiúnas” translates to “all the world is hushed,” or literally, “greater life is covered in quietness.” This is the essence of QNAS—to foster peace and quietness in life.
